Pan Prosthetic by Anesthetic-X Pan Prosthetic by Anesthetic-X
The Make-Up
This is a prosthetic make-up I created and applied for the science fiction film "Myth" directed by Tony Milan. The design was created by fantasy illustrator Dorian Cleavenger, and then sculpted, molded, ran in foam latex, applied and painted by myself, Krista Montgomery on actress Hannah Black. The hair work was done by Drew Talbot.

I did everything in a week, probably in the span of three days. During application I took about two hours to complete the look. It was a challenge, and an exciting experience for sure.

The characters were in make-up on set for up to eight hours, so the prosthetics had to be absoutely perfect. This particular photograph of Pan was taken after about seven hours of her being in the make-up. I'm very pleased with how it held up, Hannah was a very active and energetic little actress, lol, but she was a real trooper and pleasure to work with. Can't wait to do it again!

The Film
The film is about a corrupted scientist that creates strange, humanoid creatures for his own personal reasons. These creatures develop minds of their own, minds that this scientist did not prepare for, and does not agree with. The creatures tire of his ways, band together and demand freedom from his control. What concludes is both intriguing, and inspiring. I will post the trailer when it comes out in a month or so.

I was honored to work on this film with Tony and Dorian, and even more honored to have been the special effects supervisor. I supervised a large crew of about 20 amazing, different artists, seven different creatures with heavy prosthetic make-ups, and the building of a FULL SIZE spaceship. The outcome is amazing.

I truly hope you check out the film :D

This is so impressive! As someone who has only dabbled in sfx makeup/prosthetics, I am blown away by how much work this must have taken!  The final result is very professional-looking, and I definitely see the dark crystal & star wars influences! :D  I also appreciate how considerate you were toward the actors.  It can be difficult to work with "living canvases", but I feel it is of the utmost importance to make them feel as comfortable as possible.

I must add your description for the judges to find!!
A. What is the title of the play?: "Myth: Prologue"
B. What was your role in the production? Special FX Artist
C. How long did you have to design, plan and do drawings of it before fabrication of the work commenced?: This sculpt and general design took about three months to fully create, from sculpting various parts of the look to sewing to mold making and final application. The entire process took about three months to create entirely and is 100% handmade with foam, synthetic hair, fur, leather, and medical adhesive.
D. How long did you have to build it before opening night? Before open, we I had about six hours to apply a bald cap, apply the prosthetic, lay hair over the prosthetic and then attach the actress's wardrobe. Yes, it's a woman under all of that! In the end I spent about four hours on the makeup which was surprisingly fast I thought.
E. What was special about this production for you as a creative artist? This production had over 12 heavily made up characters involving a massive amount of prosthetics, this character was mine, however I supervised all of the others in their fabrication which was a journey all of it's own! This production was a mesh of star wars vs the dark crystal and was extremely fun both in content and in creation!
F. What odd, terrible, awful, or nasty challenges did you have to overcome to make this production as good as it was? The actress in particular for this makeup was extremely claustrophobic. Prosthetics can be extremely uncomfortable especially in periods of long wear which she was also undergoing. Special efforts were made to make sure she was comfortable and given adequate preparation before being literally engulfed in this makeup. Two other actors were also claustrophobic, so major attention was given to the well-being of each player. Acting in almost an extra layer of foamy skin glued to your face can be difficult!
