About the Ride/Set

This was a set design and creation that I fabricated with a crew of 5 other individuals at the infamously haunted West Virginia State Penitentiary in Moundsville, West Virginia.

We started with a pink, old room that was in need of something new. The paint was literally a pastell, flowery pink ( original from when the prison was functioning ). It was chipping everywhere and underneath those chips were bugs...mounds of dust and other nasty things that we painstakingly cleaned out. The ceiling also had the same treatment.

We then repainted everything a custom stone gray, added faux stone to the walls, ceiling and floor and then began "furnishing" the place with pillars and 3D stone.

And after about a week's worth of work we created, from scratch, what you see above. The stone work, pillars, steps, skulls, floor and of course the paint job was all hand done and created. Everything you see in that room we made - except for the caskets, which were there from the beginning.

AND IT'S A RIDE!
This set is also a RIDE. Yes a RIDE for their annual haunted attraction, "The Dungeons of Horror." You get into the caskets and zoom off into the horrors of this famously gruesome Penitentiary.

IS THE PLACE HAUNTED?
I can say that after spending some time in the Penitentiary that I absolutely think it is haunted. Moundsville is my hometown, and my first job as an effects artist was in the Penitentiary during their haunted house in October when I was fourteen. Eleven years later, I had the same strange experiences - this time even more intense ( seeing apparitions, etc. )

I highly reccommend checking it out. Experience our casket ride while you're there, and the Penitentiary itself. Creepy amazing!
